Rachael Winters

Hi, my name is Rachael Winters and I am running for the UK youth parliament for the constituency of Wakefield because...

I believe that firstly, the young people in the area should be given a clear voice. Their ideas are often heard but very seldom are they actually acted upon. If I was elected for youth parliament I could help this by setting up groups that go into schools and talk to kids about current affairs and help them to understand what is happening in the country. We could then help their ideas become reality.

Secondly that youth/support groups should be promoted and publicised in the constituency. I am aware that they already exist, however many people may seem ‘un cool’ to attend these meetings. To promote them I would suggest that they were more appealing to the target audience –teenagers mainly. For example they could play music and provide a comfortable, safe, and most importantly fun place to hang out. This could be an opportunity to meet new friends and find out more about other places and people.

So why should you vote for me... well I’m very confident and have lots of experience of public speaking and talking to people older than myself. I will listen to any suggestions or ideas put to me and I will take them to the council.

Simran Jandu

Hello everyone my name is Simran Jandu, I am 15 years old. My manifesto is about the price of university fees and transport for young people. One of the things im passionate about is your views , so before I put myself up for this position, I found out what you wanted me to change. From your responses it is obvious that the cost of transport is a major concern for young people in Wakefield. Many of you told me prices were too high and buses weren't easily accessible. If i succeed I will approach local bus companies and MP's with my ideas to increase public transport and reduce costs for young people. I am also increasingly concerned about University prices, they are simply too high. I understand that the vast majority of young people would like to go to university ans succeed in life, and I think we can achieve this dream if we all work together. The current fee of a standard university is over £9000 per year, this price is definitely not reasonable and we need to tackle this. If your parent is a single parent, or you have more than 1 sibling its really not fair for you to miss out! We are the next generation and we deserve to be educated so we can go far in life! You should vote for me because I share your views and they are all important to me so I will not be afraid to put my campaign forward. It cannot be done without your help though! I am hard-working and reliable so you can talk to me about anything! Your vote really counts! It wont cost anything, only a little time, but that little time can make a big difference! Lets make our future today! Thank you for listening!

Debbie Chown

Hello, my name Debbie Chown. I am in year 10 and I currently stand as the MYP for Central Wakefield. I am standing as a candidate again as I feel I have so much more yet to give. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who voted for me last year. Your support meant a lot to me. Please vote for me again this year if the young carers card available so that young carers have more support in schools. Vote for me if you want a more positive image of young people in the eyes of the media. We are not portrayed correctly at all and this is something I am very passionate about. Vote for me if you want more support for the increasing number of mentally unstable youths. Vote for me if you want to raise awareness about the rights of ex offenders. Vote for me because I am a great person to represent you as I have lots of experience. I am determined, organised, confident and I am a great team player; everything an MYP needs to be. I would really appreciate your vote. Thank you for reading this.

Jencine Allsop

Hi, My name is Jencine and I’m running for UKYP because I want to help people and make a change to improve the environment you live in and make it a more enjoyable place to be.  I am going to this by taking your ideas and suggestions into consideration and support from DMYP or MYP. I have chosen to focus on improving the amount and activities we have to do as youths within our area.  This could be your chance where you could have a say in what goes on in the youth club around you also the kind of things you can get involved in.  This will help improve the statistics of youth crimes due to boredom and lack of places to hang around.

Please vote for me I will do all I can with your opinions and suggestions, thanks!
