Only a handful of people can spot the difference between these two photos – can you?

Most of us believe we’ve got a good sense of what’s going around us, and that we’re good at spotting things.

But it turns out that might not actually be the case.

According to psychologists, we’re actually not very good at detecting changes in our surroundings – and it’s all because of something called change blindness.

When we’re in certain situations there is so much going on around us we simply can’t process it all.

All the information it processed in the same way, which means that sometimes we miss something that we would have thought was shockingly obvious.

Can you notice anything different?

Look at the right side of the photo, on the area of the beach which is in the shade.

Can you spot it now?

A number of the sunbathers have been edited out of the original photo.

Optical illusions
